Track & Field
There was a time when competing meant something.
That jolt when you stepped onto the field.
The stillness right before the game started.
Win or lose — it moved you. That feeling never left.
What Is Run It Back?
Run It Back is a one-day, all-sports prize-money tournament designed by and for former athletes who miss real competition. Teams compete across four sports in a fast-paced format that rewards consistency, athleticism, and team chemistry — culminating in knockout rounds with real money on the line.
Who Is It For?
If you played competitively at any level and miss the stakes, the pressure, and the camaraderie — this is for you. We're not a rec league. We're not a pickup game. We're the middle ground: structured competition with a real community, built around people who still care about winning.
Why Four Sports?
One sport favors one type of athlete. Four sports exposes who's truly versatile. The multi-sport format tests different forms of athleticism — strength, speed, coordination, and team communication — giving every competitive background a fair shot.
Who Runs It?
Run It Back was founded in 2026 by Max Peara (ex-D1 tennis player) and Karishma. Built by athletes, for athletes — with real structure, real officiating, and real prizes. This is our inaugural event, and we're building something worth coming back to.

Maximum group stage points: 16 — four wins or T&F 1st place across all four matches. T&F heat rank is determined by cumulative race points across all 4 events (max 16 race pts). Ties in race points: lowest combined time takes the higher rank. T&F is not available in the knockout stage.
Tiebreaker Order
1Head-to-head result — if the tied teams played each other in the group stage. Applied only when exactly two teams are tied.
2Total wins — the team with more outright wins ranks higher. A T&F 1st place heat finish counts as a win.
3Score differential (capped at +5 per match). Ratios: Soccer 1:1 · Flag Football 7:1 · Volleyball 5:1. T&F uses cumulative race points vs. heat field average.
4Total points scored (offense) — cumulative offensive output across all group stage matches, including losses.
5Playoff tiebreaker match — higher seed by any above criteria selects the sport. Coin flip if still identical — winner selects the sport.

Match Format
▼
Two 14-minute halves. 90-second halftime. Teams switch ends at halftime.
The clock runs continuously — no stoppages for injuries, disputes, or any other reason.
Ties at full time stand in the group stage — 2 points each. No overtime, no golden goal in the group stage.
Knockout rounds: 5-minute golden goal period. If still level, best of 3 penalty kicks per team — then sudden death alternating kicks until a winner is determined.
Field & Setup
▼
Field: 30 yards long × 20 yards wide. Indoor-size goals at each end.
5 players per side including 1 designated goalkeeper. GK must be declared to the referee before kickoff.
Substitutions are permitted between matches only — no mid-match substitutions in any sport.
Kick-ins replace throw-ins on all sideline restarts. Ball must remain on the ground.
Goalkeeper Rules
▼
GK may handle the ball only within the marked penalty area.
GK must release the ball within 5 seconds of possession. Time-wasting = indirect free kick from the penalty area line.
Back-pass rule: GK may not pick up a deliberate back-pass from a teammate's foot. Violation = indirect free kick from edge of box.
GK may not be charged or physically challenged while in possession inside the penalty area.
Goal kicks taken from anywhere inside the box. Opponents must retreat to midfield until ball is in play.
Any outfield player who deliberately handles the ball inside their own penalty area concedes a penalty kick.
Fouls & Discipline
▼
Slide tackles are prohibited — automatic free kick; yellow card on repeat.
Yellow card: player sits out 3 minutes (sin-bin). Team plays with 4 outfield players during this period.
Red card: player ejected for the match. Team plays the remainder a player down — no replacement permitted.
Two yellows in the same match = automatic red card.
Restarts & Offside
▼
No offside rule.
Free kicks in the attacking half: direct. Defensive half: indirect (second touch required before a goal can be scored).
All opponents must be at least 5 yards from the ball on all restarts.

Match Format
▼
Best of 5 sets. First team to win 3 sets wins the match.
Every set: first to 15 points, win by 2. Hard cap at 17 — tied 16-16, next point wins.
Volleyball always produces a winner — no draws possible.
Clock rule: if the match clock expires mid-set, complete the current set. Team leading in sets wins. If sets are equal, team leading in the live set wins. If the live set score is also tied at that moment, one additional rally is played — winner of that rally wins the match.
Gameplay
▼
Standard FIVB rules apply unless modified here.
Maximum 3 touches per side. A block touch counts as the first contact.
Libero permitted. Libero substitutions do not count against the substitution limit.
Up to 6 substitutions per match total. Player rotation is not required for this event.
Substitutions during dead ball only.
Rally scoring on every point — the serving team does not need to win the rally to score.
Serving
▼
One serve attempt per point. Foot faults = loss of serve + 1 point to the opponent.
Jump serves are permitted.
Net serves that land in-bounds are live — no replay.

Match Format
▼
Two 14-minute halves. 90-second halftime. Teams switch ends at halftime.
The clock runs continuously at all times — no stoppages for any reason, including incomplete passes and out-of-bounds.
Delay of game or deliberate time-wasting: 10-yard penalty.
Ties at full time stand in the group stage — 2 points each. No overtime.
Knockout rounds: each team gets one untimed possession from the opponent's 10-yard line, teams alternate. A touchdown wins outright (possessions 1 & 2). From possession 3 onwards, a TD requires a mandatory 2-point conversion to win — failed conversion passes possession to the opposing team.
Field & Setup
▼
Field: 55 yards long × 23 yards wide. Each end zone is 7 yards deep. Playing surface: 41 yards.
All players wear flag belts. Flags must be visible at all times — no tucking or taping into clothing.
Coin toss determines first possession. Loser gets the ball to open the second half.
No field goals available.
Scoring
▼
Touchdown: 6 points.
PAT is optional. From 5 yards: 1 point. From 10 yards: 2 points. Decline: 0. Declare before the snap — no changes after.
Safety: 2 points to the defending team.
Defensive pick-six on a PAT attempt: 2 points for the defense.
Downs & Movement
▼
4 downs to cross midfield, then 4 more downs to score.
No-run zone: the 7 yards in front of each end zone is pass-only. No handoffs or QB scrambles in this area.
QB has a 7-second pass clock from the snap (referee counts aloud). Failure to throw = loss of down.
QB may not advance past the line of scrimmage unless the ball was previously handed off behind the line.
One player may go in motion pre-snap — lateral or backward only. No forward motion before the snap.
Laterals and pitches permitted behind the line of scrimmage only.
Flag Pulling & Contact
▼
Flag must be pulled cleanly from the belt to down a play.
Flag guarding (blocking flag access with arms or body): loss of down + 10-yard penalty.
Blocking: body screens only. Arm or hand contact by a blocker is a penalty.
Rushing the QB: at least one rusher must align 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage. No line blitzes.
Unnecessary roughness or intentional contact: 10-yard penalty + ejection at referee's discretion.

Round Structure & Events
▼
T&F is not a head-to-head match. All 8 teams in a heat race simultaneously. Group stage points are based on overall heat rank.
4 events run in order per heat. Finish position in each event earns race points. Cumulative race points determine heat rank, which maps to group stage points.
Maximum 16 cumulative race points (1st in all 4 events). Heat rank maps to group stage points as shown in Points & Tiebreakers.
Ties in cumulative race points: lower combined time across all 4 events takes the higher rank. If still tied, both teams receive the higher rank's group stage points and the standard group stage tiebreaker sequence applies.
Roster & Runner Rules
▼
Each of the three 100m races must use a different designated runner. No athlete may run more than one 100m race.
The 400m runner may be any athlete on the roster, including athletes who already ran a 100m race.
All four runners must be declared to the heat official at least 5 minutes before the heat begins. No substitutions after declaration.
Runners must check in at the start line at least 3 minutes before their event. Failure to appear = last place (0 race points) for that event.
400m Course
▼
The 400m is run as a 100m out-and-back repeated four times with cone turns at each end. All 8 runners remain visible throughout.
Runners must go around the cone — cutting the turn = disqualification from that event.
Course is measured and coned before the event begins.
Race Rules & Conduct
▼
One false start per race is forgiven (warning issued). A second false start = disqualification and last place (0 race points) for that event.
100m runners must stay in their assigned lane for the full race.
Deliberate interference with another runner = disqualification + last place for that event.
No starting blocks — standing or crouched start only. Metal spikes longer than ¼ inch are prohibited.
Times recorded to the nearest 0.01 second by stopwatch or electronic timer.
Track & Field does not appear in the knockout stage. Results count toward group stage standings only.

No-Repeat Rule
1
Higher seed picks the sport
The higher-seeded team selects from Soccer, Flag Football, or Volleyball before warm-up. No changes once declared. If the higher seed fails to declare in time, the right passes to the lower seed.
2
No-repeat rule
Once a team wins a knockout match using a sport, they may not select that sport again in any subsequent knockout match. Any team reaching the Final must win across all three sports — one per round.
3
Bronze match carries over
The no-repeat rule carries through to the Bronze Match. Sport eligibility is determined by which sports were used to win previous knockout matches — it does not reset.
4
Example
A team that wins their Quarter-final in Volleyball and Semi-final in Soccer must play Flag Football in the Final or Bronze Match, regardless of preference.
⚽
Soccer — Tiebreak
5-minute golden goal period. If still level: best of 3 penalty kicks per team, then sudden death alternating kicks until a winner is determined.
🏈
Flag Football — Tiebreak
Each team gets one possession from the opponent's 10-yard line. TD wins outright (possessions 1 & 2). From possession 3 onwards: TD + mandatory 2-pt conversion required to win.
🏐
Volleyball — Tiebreak
No tiebreak procedure required. Volleyball always produces a winner. The in-progress set is completed to determine the result.
